RAI RESEARCH SEMINAR

SEMINAR SERIES AT THE ROYAL ANTHROPOLOGICAL INSTITUTE

Anthropology and Humanitarian Intervention

Professor Raymond Apthorpe, Vice-President, RAI

Wednesday 3 December at 5.30 pm

One of anthropology’s currently rapidly developing areas is with regard to humanitarian intervention and aid studies (see the speaker’s JRAI Review Essay in this year’s June issue ‘Anthropology and humanitarianisms across borders: a growing field of study’). Arguably the RAI as a learned society of impeccable pedigree and status is in a particularly favourable position to foster and contribute to  humanitarianisms research along with its many other roles and responsibilities, but what precisely are anthropology’s comparative advantages to contribute to public debate about such intervention across borders whether undertaken with the force of arms or not - but particularly when it is - and what are the pitfalls to avoid?

This event is free, but tickets must be booked. To book tickets please go to http://apthorpe.eventbrite.co.uk.
