Launch of the new RAI Committee on Policy and Practice

Wednesday 27 November at 5:30 pm

The RAI is launching a new committee for both academic and policy/practitioner anthropologists, and those who consider themselves both, as well as social scientists interested in anthropology in the UK and overseas. The question for this committee is why, how, and when anthropology has value and influence in policy-making and practice, whether through partnership, advice, support, dissent, subversion or critical engagement. In encouraging closer relationships between scholars, policy-makers and practitioners, we will aim to create opportunities for dialogue, study and access into organisations. For the first three years we will encourage a focus on the relationship (and gaps) between rules, policies and practices, more effective ways to communicate and a fuller understanding of 5 urgent themes: (1) climate crisis, (2) mobilities, (3) ethics, (4) the state, and (5) artificial intelligence.

Please come to our launch to hear more and influence our plans.

Speakers:

Gerhard Anders, University of Edinburgh
Andrew Clayton, DFID
Emma Crewe, SOAS, University of London
