John Baily (Emeritus Professor of Ethnomusicology, Goldsmiths, University of London)

The kharâbât network of alleyways and courtyards in Kabul’s old city was until recently the Musicians Quarter, the home of an inter-related community of hereditary male performers of Sufi poetry and spiritual music. This seminar discusses the artistic achievements of the recent past and the survival of these remnants in the realities of current exile.
