Volunteers, Interns and Student Placements

Home Jobs & Opportunities Volunteers, Interns and Student Placements

If you are interested in getting involved with the Royal Anthropological Institute’s activities, we would like to hear from you.

There are different ways to be involved.  We offer internships, student placements, and volunteering placements.

Interns, students, and volunteers can get involved with our archive and photograph collections, our film department, education and outreach projects, and bigger events, such as our conferences or London Anthropology Day.

Please note, we cannot accept volunteers or placement students under the age of eighteen.
We do not offer any roles relating to forensic anthropology.

Internships
Internships are paid, fixed-term positions. These are advertised on our Vacancy page. We do not accept speculative internship applications outside of advertised projects.

Student placements
Student placements at the RAI are fixed-term projects agreed between a student, their institution, and the RAI, as part of a degree programme, course, or module. If you are interested in organising a placement for yourself or your students, please send an informal inquiry to the Office Manager.

Volunteers
While we can only offer limited paid internships, people interested in being involved can always approach us about volunteering. We take volunteers on a rolling basis, depending on suitable projects throughout the year.

If you are interested in being involved in an existing project or event, please watch the Vacancy page for advertised volunteering roles.

If you are interested in volunteering outside of advertised opportunities, please email a CV and cover letter to the Office Manager. The cover letter should include details of the time frame that you would be available, including the number of days per week, and any preferences for the area you would like to work in. Your application will then be circulated to the relevant departments to establish whether there is a suitable project available.
