SUSPEND YOUR BELIEFS

Film screening and Q&A with film maker Simone Clifford-Jaeger

Director: Simone Clifford-Jaeger
Release: 2004
Length: 29 mins

Suspension of the living body from hooks has been practiced in various cultural contexts and places in the past, but today forms part of a growing global interest in body modification. This film joins a group of contemporary British practitioners at a week-end meeting in Norfolk, examining what the experience of suspension means to them, and particularly its role in their understanding of the relationship between their selves, their bodies and the world.

This is a student film from the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology (University of Manchester).

THE BODY CANVAS PHOTO EXHIBITION

The RAI is exhibiting 35 stunning photographs of body modification from the Body Canvas International Photography Competition. The exhibition includes an eclectic mix of tattooing, piercing and body reshaping from initiation rites in Papua New Guinea to gender reassignment in the U.S.A. The exhibition runs until 13 January 2013. This event will provide an opportunity to meet some of the photographers and speak to them about their work.

This event is free but booking is required. To book your place visit: <a target="_blank" href="http://bodycanvas.eventbrite.com/“>www.bodycanvas.eventbrite.com or phone 020 7387 0455.
