“Love Terrestrial and Love Divine”: Women and Dutar in Uzbekistan

Wednesday 6 April at 11.00am

Playing the Uzbek Dutar (plucked lute) and doira (frame drum), Dr Razia Sultanova will give a rendition of Uzbek female music.  This feminine repertoire was performed exclusively indoors, far from the eyes and ears of strangers.  It includes lullabies, songs of love and marriage, ritual music, and Islamic Sufi Dhikr.
