The Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute (JRAI) is the principal, quarterly journal of the RAI. The JRAI additionally publishes an annual Special Issue which is competitively selected by the RAI Publications Committee, as well as Supplement Issues which delve deeper into an area of anthropological discipline or adjacent discipline.

Submissions
The Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute welcomes the submission of papers on any branch of anthropology. Authors are encouraged to consult the JRAI’s website, where you can find full details of how to submit as well as author guidelines.
All JRAI articles are submitted and processed electronically via the online platform Editorial Manager.
JRAI Special Issue
The Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute produces an annual Special Issue, comprising of a collection of articles as voted for by the RAI Publications Committee.
Proposals for the 2028 Special Issue will be accepted from late-2025. Read more





Book & Film Reviews
The Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute publishes reviews of books and films of relevance and interest to a general anthropological audience, including social, biological, and linguistic anthropology as well as archaeology and other adjacent disciplines.
Queries regarding reviews should go to jraireviews@therai.org.uk. Please note that books or films sent to the JRAI for review will not be returned. Please be aware that by sending more than one copy, you accept that any duplicate copies may be given away or recycled.
