Salary: Renumeration will be based on the RAI’s standard officer rate of £35,230 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

About RAI FILM Festival

The RAI Film Festival is an internationally renowned biennial event showcasing films and documentaries that focus on the world’s diverse cultures and communities. Organised by the Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI), the festival is dedicated to promoting cross-cultural understanding through the art of filmmaking. The 2025 edition has three distinct components:

  • In person festival – 27-30 March 2025 at the Watershed Cinema and the Arnolfini Arts Centre and Gallery in Bristol, UK. 4 days of film screenings, gala events, workshops, and talks.
  • Festival films online- April 2025 streaming over 80 films available 24/7 worldwide
  • Visual and Multimodal Anthropology Online Conference – 28 April to 3 May 2025.

We aim for an exciting lineup of screenings, discussions, workshops, and events, making it a must-attend for filmmakers, anthropologists, and audiences interested in global cultural perspectives.

The Role

We are seeking a versatile and skilled Technical, Design and Media Support Specialist to join our film festival team. This hybrid role combines the responsibilities of managing technical operations for both online and limited in-person aspects of the festival, as well as overseeing the design and production of visual and media content. The ideal candidate will ensure seamless event execution while helping to maintain a cohesive and engaging visual identity for the festival.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Operations

Online Platform Management:

  • Prepare and manage the online festival platform, handle inquiries, and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Coordinate with venue staff to ensure all technical needs are met including the preparation and transfer of DCPs and other media.
  • Oversee the technical setup and operation of online streaming platforms, ensuring high-quality video and audio transmission.
  • Manage virtual event and conference platforms for online screenings, panels, and Q&A sessions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues for online events in real-time.
  • Provide real-time technical support to filmmakers, presenters, and attendees during both online and in-person events.
  • Address technical inquiries and issues, such as audio/visual malfunctions, streaming errors, or login difficulties.
  • Offer guidance on the use of festival platforms and technology to participants and staff.
  • Develop and maintain FAQs and support documentation for common technical issues.
  • Onboard all content to an online streaming platform, manage the technical needs for in-person venues, and oversee the smooth transfer of DCPs.
  1. Design and Media Production

Design and Branding:

  • Create visually engaging marketing materials, including digital and print advertisements, the official film programme, social media graphics and templates, holding screens for in cinema and online and more
  • Take ownership of the entire design process, from conceptualisation to execution, staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to bring fresh and innovative ideas to the table.

Media Production: Produce trailers, pre-roll videos, and all visual content that contributes to a cohesive festival experience.

Brand Cohesion: Work closely with the film festival and marketing and communications team to ensure a cohesive festival identity and consistent visual communication across platforms.

Qualifications:

Education:

Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, film production, event management, graphic design, media production, visual communications, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years in technical support, audiovisual setup, or media production, preferably in an event or film festival setting.
  • At least one year of post-grad experience. A strong portfolio showcasing your creative talent and versatility across various design and video mediums.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects).
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills and familiarity with digital content formats and streaming technology.
  • Excellent design and media production skills, with experience in both print and digital media.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and present your ideas.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a keen attention to detail.

Working Conditions:

  • In-Person: On-site presence in London and travel to Bristol will be required occasionally, though daily office attendance is not.
  • Online: Ability to provide remote support for virtual events and manage digital platforms from a home office with computing and internet access to handle large files and data transfers.
  • Hours: Flexible, with extended hours during the festival period.
