Where are we now? Visual and Multimodal Anthropology
The call for papers and other proposals is now open. Deadline: 17th of January 2025
The RAI Film Festival conference will be held online from 29 April – 2 May 2025.
Papers and contributions to roundtables
Paper proposals must consist of:
- a paper title
- the name/s and email address/es of author/s
- a short abstract of fewer than 300 characters
- a long abstract of fewer than 250 words
All proposals must be made via the online form, not by email. There is a ‘Propose paper’ button in the title section of each open panel. Navigate to the panel you are interested in and click on this button to propose directly to that panel. If you then decide you’d like to propose to another panel, first click ‘Cancel’ on the proposal form, before returning to the panel explorer (otherwise you’ll remain locked into that panel).
On submission of the proposal, all authors will receive an automated email confirming receipt/their role. If you do not receive this email, please first check the login environment via the link in the toolbar above, to see if your proposal is there. If it is, it simply means your confirmation email got spammed/lost; if it is not, you will need to re-submit, as for some reason the process was not completed. Co-authors can be added or removed, but papers cannot be withdrawn by the proposers themselves – for that, please email conference(at)theasa.org
Proposals will be marked as pending until the end of the Call for Papers (17/01/2025). Convenors will then be asked to make their decisions over the papers proposed to their panel and to communicate those to the proposers, marking them up within the login environment.
How to Submit
Please browse the panels here before you submit your paper.
Work in progress
We invite practitioners and artists to submit proposals to present their multimodal work-in-progress for feedback. This opportunity is open to creators at any stage of production—whether in pre-production, production, or post-production.
We are looking for a range of digital media, sound, illustration, web-based projects, and other creative forms. This is an opportunity to receive feedback, reflect on challenges, and connect with a supportive community of peers and experts.
Selected participants will present their work to an expert from the RAI Film network, who will offer constructive, generative feedback. Each participant will have 30 minutes to present their work, followed by comments and feedback from the expert and peer discussion. The aim is to provide a creative and nurturing environment in which creators can benefit from both scholarly insight and practical expertise. Each session will be open to the wider festival audience.
How to Submit
Proposals of work in progress should be made to Workshop P20.
We look forward to receiving your submissions!
