UPSTAIRS AT THE RAI
Bx46 – Film Screening
Directed by Jeremie Brugidou and Fabien Clouette
FRANCE, USA / 2013 / 78 min
Tuesday 1st December
18:00 – 20:00
Bx46 is an documentary film essay, an exploration of trajectories and routes between three and a half spaces in contemporary New York: the legendary fish market that recently moved to the Bronx and its disused location in lower Manhattan which remains an empty shell; the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center, a barge docked opposite the Rikers island prison; and the Metropolitan Waste Transfer Facility. Somewhere between a video-portrait, an archive, and a video-atlas, Bx46 takes as its starting point the workers, buyers and sellers. It focuses in on the piecemeal handlers commonly called “journeymen”, and then proceeds to spiral out towards a deep engagement with the material implications of space itself.
