RAI Research Seminar: Sarah Elton

April 17 @ 12:00 am

RAI RESEARCH SEMINAR

SEMINAR SERIES AT THE ROYAL ANTHROPOLOGICAL INSTITUTE

The Ecological Context for Early Human Evolution in East Africa

Dr Sarah Elton, University of Durham

Wednesday 17 April at 5.30 pm

East Africa is the source of much valuable information about early human evolution. In this seminar, I will consider how knowledge of the animals that lived alongside human ancestors (hominins) can help provide information about the environments they inhabited. I will also examine hominin ecology, including dietary competition between different species of hominin and the animals living alongside them. I will focus in particular on the period around 2 million years ago at Koobi Fora, made famous by the Leakey family, which had an unprecendented degree of hominin diversity, including early members of our own genus, Homo.

This event is free, but tickets must be booked.  To book tickets please go to http://sarahelton.eventbrite.co.uk/“>http://sarahelton.eventbrite.co.uk/
