May 30 @ 10:00 am - 3:30 pm

CALLING ALL TEACHERS AND LECTURERS CONSIDERING THE NEW SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGY UNITS

Tuesday 30 May 2017
Time: 10.00am – 3.30pm
Location: Charteris Land, University of Edinburgh, Holyrood Road, EH8 8AQ

To celebrate and support the introduction by the SQA of social anthropology units into Scottish schools and colleges, the Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI) and the Scottish departments of social anthropology (SCAR), are offering a day of short talks, questions and discussion designed to help you develop your plans and proposals for teaching these units. A member of each of the departments of Aberdeen, Edinburgh and St. Andrews and an anthropologically-inclined member of the teachers training department in Moray House, will be joined by one or two anthropology graduates who work out in the real world, two teachers who bring their experience of teaching anthropology at A level in England, and the education officer at the RAI whose job includes preparing resources precisely for anthropology teachers.

The event is to be held at Charteris Land, University of Edinburgh, Holyrood Road, EH8 8AQ. Registration at 10 for 10:30 a.m. If your school or college will release you for this excellent opportunity to prepare, please write to Joy Hendry (jhendry@brookes.ac.uk), and let me know if particular aspects of the subject interest you, so that we can tailor a suitable programme. Please regard this event as a training day for release from your school or college. It should be over by 3.30 p.m. and lunch will be included.
