Forensic Anthropology Level III is the entry level professional certification in Forensic Anthropology offered by the RAI and is aimed at appropriately qualified individuals who have begun to develop their skills within the discipline. Certified practitioners are entitled to the post-nominal Cert FA-III. Candidates are expected to demonstrate their eligibility through the information that they include on the application form.
Applications to FAIII
Application for FAIII certification involves an application form and portfolio submission. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
How to apply:
- The applicant must be a Fellow of the RAI. Information on joining the RAI can be found here
- Applicants must complete an Application Form and submit it to fac@therai.org.uk
- A current CV and pdf portfolio containing evidence of that which is stipulated under section 1 of the Practitioner Levels must be submitted to fac@therai.org.uk to support your application
- The fee for FAIII is £100. Applicants will be invoiced on receipt of their application
- Applicants are asked to consult the Guidance to FAIII Candidates document
Please note that all files sent should be password-protected. The candidate’s application will be either passed or failed by two independent examiners. There are no examinations involved at this level of certification. Application review can take anywhere from 2-6 months, depending on referee and reviewer availability.

Recertification
Continuing professional development is a vital part of the certification process. Certified FAIII practitioners are advised to consult the CPD documentation.
Every 5 years after certification, FAIII practitioners are required to:
- Complete a FAIII recertification form and submit it along with an up-to-date CV to fac@therai.org.uk
- Submit a portfolio containing evidence of that which is stipulated under section 3 of the CPD document to fac@therai.org.uk
- Retain their status as a Fellow of the RAI
Please note that all files sent should be password-protected. There are no fees associated with FAIII recertification. Once your documents have been passed by two independent examiners, your 5-year recertification window will reset.
Alternatively, practitioners may choose to advance to Forensic Anthropologist II.
