Ian Herbertson FRSA, FRAS, FSAScot, has a Diploma in Art Appreciation and an MA in History of Art and Archaeology of East Asia (SOAS). He works independently researching prints and is Honorary Assistant Curator (for Prints and Drawings) at the Oriental Club; his Prints at the Oriental Club was published in 2024. He reviewed the artwork catalogues at the Royal Asiatic Society between 2019 and 2022. His research interests range from the art philosophical (imagination) to the representation and misrepresentation of cultures in art. Ian was a member of the organising committees for the Institute’s conferences on Anthropology, Weather and Climate Change (2016) and Art, Materiality and Representation (2018). His earlier research was in Palaeoanthropology (MA by Independent Study) and he worked for several seasons at an excavation is SE Spain.
