Jean Rouch and the French New Wave

Thursday 3 June 2010
6.30-9.30 pm

Paul Henley will introduce Rouch’s classic ‘ethnofiction’ Moi, un Noir, in which migrants on the Ivory Coast improvise their own lives both at work and at leisure. This film won the Prix Louis-Delluc, the French equivalent of an Oscar, in 1959 and had a major impact on New Wave film-makers such as Truffaut and Godard.

This event will mark the publication of ‘The Adventure of the Real’, Paul Henley’s major study in English of Rouch’s film-making craft. For further details please see: www.press.uchicago.edu.

This event is hosted by inSight Education with the support of UCL Anthropology and the Royal Anthropological Institute.

To reserve your free space please email info@insighteducation.org.uk citing Rouch as the subject.
