Forensic and Expert Social Anthropologist III is the entry level for professional practice and is aimed at appropriately qualified individuals who have begun to develop their skills within the discipline. Entry into Forensic and Expert Social Anthropologist III is conferred by an application form and portfolio review.
Certified practitioners are entitled to the post-nominal Cert FESA-III.
Applications for FESA III Certification
Application for FESA III certification involves an application form and portfolio submission. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
To apply for FESA Level III Certification:
- The applicant must be a Fellow of the RAI. Information on joining the RAI can be found here
- A Level III application form must be completed and submitted along with an up-to-date CV to fac@therai.org.uk
- A portfolio containing evidence of that which is stipulated under section 1 of the Practitioner Levels document must be submitted to fac@therai.org.uk as a single pdf
- The fee for FESA III certification is £100. Applicants will be invoiced on receipt of application
- Applicants are advised to consult Appendix 4 ‘Guidance to FESA III Candidates’ of the Examination Procedures document
Please note that any files sent should be password protected. The candidate’s application will be either passed or failed by two independent examiners. There are no practical examinations involved at this level of certification.

Recertification
Continuing professional development is a vital part of the certification process. Certified FESA III practitioners are advised to consult the CPD document.
Every 5 years after certification, FESA III practitioners are required to:
- Complete the FESA III recertification form and submit it along with an up-to-date CV to fac@therai.org.uk
- Submit a portfolio containing evidence of that which is stipulated under section 3 of the CPD document to fac@therai.org.uk
- Retain their status as a Fellow of the RAI
